Giro d'Italia 2025, all about stage 11: route, altimetry, favorites and TV times

The eleventh stage is choppy after the Pisa time trial. A tough Gpm, but far from the finish line, then a couple of sprints in the final for a probable sprint finish: here is the Castelnovo ne' Monti stage

The altimetry of the eleventh stage

Pisa, May 20, 2025 – A Giro 2025 still all to be discovered, but with a ranking that is starting to take shape after the Pisa time trial. Some climbers, as was logical to expect, have lost ground, the reference is to Bernal, Carapaz and Ciccone, while Roglic he climbed back up, closing his gap to Isaac to 1'18” Del Toro, who at the same time saw his partner Juan Ayuso approaching 25”. Antonio also did well Tiberi, third in the standings at 1'01” behind, just ahead of Simon Yachts. From sixth down, however, gaps greater than two minutes. The second week starts again from Viareggio Wednesday and will probably have as its highlight the fifteenth stage with Monte Grappa on Sunday.

Timeline

A non-trivial stage and divided in half that of Viareggio to Castelnovo ne' Monti (Reggio Emilia) of 186 kilometers. Easy first phase of about seventy kilometers, but in Campori the first category of Alpe San Pellegrino begins, which measures 13.7 kilometers with average gradients of 8.8% and maximums of 19%. Real climb, but placed more than 90 kilometers from the finish line. This is followed by a very long downhill practically forty kilometers up to Cerendolo, intermediate sprint at kilometer 135 of the race. Final from classics, in a path that will favor a escape. Gpm second category in Toano, 11.1 kilometers at 4.9% and maximums of 10%, then continuous hilly stretch and a succession of ups and downs passing by Villa Minozzo, Red Bull kilometer, to then arrive at thelast climb of Pietra di Bismantova, which is 5.8 kilometers long with maximums of 12% and a summit five from the finish line. It's not over, the last 3 km are characterized by a ramp to go up and later brief downhill that lead into the town with some challenging curves. The last kilometer is all uphill.

Favorites

It seems like a stage very suitable for long-distance breakaways of riders who are good at climbing. Lorenzo Fortunato and Diego Ulissi can return to being protagonists, just like Vendrame, Poels, Bais, Steinhauser, De Bondt, Pello Bilbao and Plapp. In general terms, Alpe San Pellegrino is too far from the finish line, but in the two final Gpm someone could try to gain a few seconds. But it would be, perhaps, more effort than real utility.
