Florence, 28 June 2024 – Everything is ready for the 111th edition of Tour de France which will start on Saturday 29 June from Florence with three stages entirely in Italy. Departure therefore from Tuscany with first arrival in Rimini, then the Cesenatico-Bologna in honor of Pantani and finally the Piacenza-Torino to close the Grand Depart 2024. The Grande Boucle offers one of the most spectacular editions not only as a route but also as a lot of participants (pogacar, Vingegaard, Roglic ed evenepoel over all). 3.498 total kilometers from Florence to Nice, no arrival in Paris because preparations for the Olympics are already underway, with 7 high mountain stages and 4 uphill finishes. However, the time trial kilometers are few, only 59 and divided into two stages. There will also be the dirt road in Troyes for a small Strade Bianche. Let's see the secrets of the route.

Thursday 4 July Macon-Dijon stage 6
Thursday 4 July Macon-Dijon stage 6

Sprinters still protagonists at the Tour de France with a fairly short sixth stage and with only one fourth category Gpm at the start. Then a lot of plain towards Dijon for a sprint finish (wind permitting).

Friday 5 July Nuits-Saint-Georges - Gevrey-Chambertin stage 7
Friday 5 July Nuits-Saint-Georges - Gevrey-Chambertin stage 7

Second watershed for the general classification after the Galibier: the 25 kilometer time trial takes place in Gevrey which is almost totally flat apart from a slight climb halfway towards Curley. You will have to pedal hard and at high frequencies.

Saturday 6 July Semur-en-Auxois - Colombey-les-deux-Eglises stage 8
Saturday 6 July Semur-en-Auxois - Colombey-les-deux-Eglises stage 8

Moved stage, probably suitable for a long-range escape but not impacting the general classification. There are many climbs at the beginning but of third and fourth category and in general a rough route which should favor the brave. There will be no ground for attacks between the big names.

Sunday 7 July Troyes-Troyes stage 9

Maximum attention to the ninth stage of the Tour which is a small Strade Bianche with 14 sectors of dirt and dust. The last six sectors are enclosed in the final 32 kilometers and for the big names in the general there will be only one mission: to avoid trouble.

Tuesday 9 July Orleans - Saint-Amand-Montrond stage 10
Tuesday 9 July Orleans - Saint-Amand-Montrond stage 10

The tenth stage will still be 'rest'. No GPM scheduled, lots of flat terrain and some ups and downs between the Loiret and the Cher. Last push to Bruere Allichamps less than ten from the finish line.

Wednesday 10 July Evaux-les-bains - Le Lioran stage 11
Wednesday 10 July Evaux-les-bains - Le Lioran stage 11

Interesting fraction and one that will see the champions fighting for the yellow jersey pay attention. Quite tough finish first with the Col de Neronne, then with the Puy Mary Pas de Peyrol 28 from the finish line, but it's not over because in the last kilometers there are still the tears of Col de Pertus and Font de Cere.

Stage 12 Aurillac-Villeneuve sur Lot 203 kilometres, 11 July

Thursday 11 July Aurillac - Villeneuve-sur-Lot stage 12
Thursday 11 July Aurillac - Villeneuve-sur-Lot stage 12

Interlocutory stage with three Gpm halfway through but all easy and non-selective. Final made of ups and downs but the sprint finish should be quite obvious.

Stage 13 Agen-Pau 163 kilometres, 12 July

Friday 12 July Agen-Pau stage 13
Friday 12 July Agen-Pau stage 13

Another fraction not particularly relevant in the economy of the general classification with only two fourth category tears in the final but nothing that could upset the fight for the yellow jersey. In Pau it's either an escape or a sprint finish.

Saturday 13 July Pau - Saint-Lary-Soulan stage 14
Saturday 13 July Pau - Saint-Lary-Soulan stage 14

Stage 16 Gruissan-Nimes 188 kilometres, 16 July

Tuesday 16 July Gruissan-Nimes stage 16
Tuesday 16 July Gruissan-Nimes stage 16

Stage 17 Saint Paul Trois-Superdevoluy 177 kilometres, 17 July

Wednesday 17 July Saint-Paul-trois-Chateaux - Superdevoluy stage 17
Wednesday 17 July Saint-Paul-trois-Chateaux - Superdevoluy stage 17

Flat stage for three quarters but very interesting in the end. You climb the second category of Col Bayard, then the first category with the Col du Noyer and finally the third category climb of 4 kilometers towards Superdevoluy.

Stage 18 Gap-Barcelonnette 179 kilometres, 18 July

Thursday 18 July Gap-Barcelonnette stage 18
Thursday 18 July Gap-Barcelonnette stage 18

Fraction for escapes, but perhaps not for big names in general. There is very little plain but the climbs are short and all third category. We start with the Col du Festre, then Corps, Manse, Saint Apollinaire, and Desmoiselles, this one located 40 from the finish line. Pay attention to the finish because the road climbs slightly in the last twenty kilometers towards the finish line.

Stage 19 Embrun-Isola 2000 144 kilometres, 19 July

Friday 19 July Embrun-Isola stage 19
Friday 19 July Embrun-Isola stage 19

Stage 21 Monaco-Nice 33 kilometres, 21 July

Sunday 21 July Monte Carlo-Nice stage 21
Sunday 21 July Monte Carlo-Nice stage 21

The Tour ends with a time trial after more than thirty years. No catwalk in Paris, already busy for the Olympics, but rather a 33 kilometer time trial finishing in Nice. It won't be easy because in the middle there will be the second category of La Turbie and also the Col d'Eze shortly after. Downhill finish towards Nice with the last five kilometers being flat. Upon arrival, the winner of the 111th edition of the Tour will be announced.
