The Venetian wins in a sprint ahead of Pidcock at the end of a wet and nervous stage, with the first skirmishes between the big names in a ranking still led by Ganna

Andrea Vendrame (Ansa)
Colfiorito (Foligno), March 12, 2025 - The stage 3 of Tirreno-Adriatico 2025 take the group from Follonica a Colfiorito (Foligno) after 239 km. In addition to 3 GPM to climb, including the final one of Colfiorito Pass, and ai 3300 meters of altitude difference, the rain adds to further complicate the day Filippo Gana, who remains in the blue jersey, and company. A company that gives each other a good beating on the final climb and on the subsequent flat stretch that leads to the finish, closed by a sprint regulated by Andrea Vendrame, the protagonist you don't expect, capable of outwitting all the big names in the general classification, as well as continuing to make people speak Italian Race of the Two Seas. Yesterday he had in fact won jonathan milan, today involved in a fall that had made us fear the worst: the leader of the points classification instead gets up and manages to limit the damage, although he still has to say goodbye to his dreams of glory for today. Nothing to be done for Ganna, the winner of the first fraction who today did not limit himself to trying to defend the symbol of the primacy: the Piedmontese attacked in the final and almost came close to the feat that would have meant a repeat after the time trial won in Lido di CamaioreThe sensations left by the runner of the Ineos Grenadiers in view of the Milan-Sanremo but they are excellent, while on the first climb of this Tirreno-Adriatico some big names disappoint expectations: above all Antonio Tiberi, who however defends himself on arrival and climbs to third place in the standings, Isaac Del Toro and the two twins Adam e Simon yates, while Juan Ayuso he tried to make a difference as well as Richard Carapaz. Even the born attackers tom pidcock (second at the finish line), Ben Healy e Mathieu van der Poel they tried the decisive push in a very tricky final where, instead, nobody managed to make the difference: instead, 'Vendramix', the man who gets excited when there is bad weather. The stage 4, the Norcia-Trasacco di 190 km, proposes others 2 GPM and other 2750 meters of altitude difference: other chances on the horizon for the attackers and perhaps even for the men in the general classification.
The news
The race starts again without Alberto Bettiol (XDS Astana Team), while the green jersey is at the start David Bais (Team Polti VisitMalta) and Lorenzo Conforti (VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè), who face the first altimetric difficulty of the day, the Pass of the Extinguished Light (12,3 km with an average slope of 4,2%): the first to cross the pass is ConfortiThe group returns together shortly before the climb of the La Foce (5,2 km with an average slope of 4,6%), before the summit of which they try to attack again Fuck e Conforti, with the latter still passing first, increasingly threatening the green jersey of the first. The group returns compact and, thanks to the very heavy rain, proceeds compactly until the intermediate sprint of Castel del Piano, which sees the easy triumph of jonathan milan (Lidl-Trek), which thus cements its place in the points classification and puts in its bag 3" of credit. Immediately after they attack Andrea Pietrobon (Team Polti VisitMalta) and Dries de Bondt (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team), who soon gain more than 3'30 " of advantage. Just before the Colfiorito Pass (18,1 km with an average slope of 3,1% and maximum of 14%) the group is shaken by a fall involving, among others, Simone Consonni (Lidl Trek), Soren Waerenskjold (Uno-X Mobility) e Johannes Staune-Mittet (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team): he also ends up on the ground Milan, who gets up but starts to lose a lot of time before recovering and limiting the damage, although he is effectively out of the race for the stage win. At 9,5 km from the finish line the action ends De Bondt, imitated shortly after by Pietrobon. At that point they shoot first Ben Healy (EF Education-EasyPost) and then Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates XRG): they follow them Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck), Derek Gee (Israel-PremierTech), Valentin Paret Peintre (Soudal Quick-Step), Jay Hindley (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) e Filippo Gana (Ineos Grenadiers). The situation is resolved before the new attack by Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost) e Romain Gregoire (Groupama-FDJ): the other big players are still following them, from which they are missing Adam Yates (UAE Team Emirates XRG), Simon yates (Visma-Lease a Bike) e Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain Victorious). Under the impetus of Ganna, the Ineos Grenadiers keeps the pace high to control the situation, now calm again: the summit rewards Manuel Tarozzi (VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè). Surprisingly, it then accelerates Ganna with one of his shots as soon as the road clears: the blue jersey is recaptured when the shot is taken Van der PoelThe Dutchman finds himself holed up in the final, which ends with a long and uncertain sprint that rewards Andrea Vendrame (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team), good at fooling even tom pidcock (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team) and the other favourites of the day
