Tour de France 2025, Carapaz: "I'll hunt for stages, without thinking about the classification"

The Ecuadorian, third at the Giro d'Italia 2025, is thinking about the Grande Boucle but also about the future with EF Education-EasyPost: "I hope to continue with them, but I wouldn't mind returning to the Movistar Team"

Rome, 19 June 2025 – The case was filed away not without a trail of controversy Giro d'Italia 2025, it's time for the cycling world to think about the Tour de France 2025, starting on 5th July da Lille: the speech is even more valid for Richard Carapaz, the great loser of the Colle delle Finestre together with Isaac Del Toro, respectively third and second place behind Simon yates. Now everything is behind us: ahead there is a Great Boucle that the Ecuadorian will live chasing stages, trying to repeat, if not even improve, the loot of the 2024.

Carapaz's statements

A year ago the runner of theEF Education EasyPost he managed to impose himself on Superdevoluy, also taking home the polka-dotted jersey and the prize for the super-combatant of the edition: a turnover to chase even now that the general classification objective will be set aside, as declared in the columns of Brand and as in fact already announced in recent months. "The first goal of the year, the podium in a Great Tour, has been achieved and now I feel like I have given my all. Now comes the Tour de France, with a different role, not focused on the general classification, but with other objectives such as the classification reserved for climbers or the stages. It is a more important race, with a higher level. The team knows the intentions to which I will strongly push".

Determination is not lacking in carapaz, as was also evident in that sort of Mexican stalemate seen on Colle delle Finestre even with those like Del Toro he is actually Mexican: in that case the stubbornness of the class of '93 was not enough to grab that pink jersey already won in 2019, but in the near future the same attitude will be needed to try to convince theEF Education EasyPost to renew a contract that is fast approaching its expiry. "We are still talking about it with the team. Most likely I will continue, but I can't say anything in advance. We are still discussing, and I will know more in the coming weeks. The days following the Giro d'Italia - continues carapaz – I wanted to take a break for a bit and now we will get back to the topic. When I have something clear I will certainly announce it, but for the moment I cannot say anything". Among the hypotheses in play there is also the farewell after 2 years, with a return perhaps in that Movistar Team in which the Ecuadorian had made himself known to the great cycling before the transition, in truth without leaving his mark, to the Ineos Grenadiers. "I have very good memories there. I would be very happy to return to Movistar Team, to be honest. Whatever happens, I want to finish well with the current team now. But that could be a good option."
