Tour de France 2025
Paris, 29 October 2024 - Presented today the Tour de France 2025 route, scheduled from 5 to 27 July. This morning Christian Prudhomme lifted the veil at the Palais des Congrès in Paris on the 112esima edition of the Grande Boucle. The departure will be from Lille and will have the characteristic of taking place entirely within the borders of France, paying homage to the greats of transalpine cycling of all time such as Jean Robic, Louison Bobet, Jacques Anquetil, Bernard Hinault, Bernard Thevenet and Laurent Fignon.
The 3.320 kilometers between Lille and Paris include seven stages for sprinters, six hilly sections, six high mountain sections (with five high altitude finishes) and two time trials. A challenging and spectacular route right from the start with some important stages in terms of the general classification.
The first step on the streets of Lille, start and finish, it will be a challenge between sprinters. In the second fraction, arrival in Boulogne-sur-Mer, there will be the opportunity for attackers and champions to show off with two climbs in the last 10 kilometers and a final stretch on a slight uphill slope. The third stage will arrive in Dunkirk, and it will be a matter between sprinters. fourth from Amiens to Rouen, presents an interesting route: in the last 25 kilometres there are three Grand Prix de la Montagne, including the fearsome Rampe Saint-Hilaire (900 metres at 10,6 percent). fifth stage, starting and finishing in Caen, will be an individual time trial of 33 kilometres, almost entirely flat.
The sixth stage It is a very demanding stage, with more than 3500 metres of positive altitude difference and a finish in Vire Normandie preceded by a 700 metre climb with a 10,2% gradient. The seventh will end on the Mur de Bretagne Guerlédan, which in 2021 saw the solo arrival of Mathieu van der Poel. More relaxed stages 8 and 9 with the arrivals in Laval and Chateauroux will challenge the sprinters. tenth stage, from Ennezat to Le Mont-Dore (Puy de Sancy), which will be run on the Monday of the French national holiday, looks very tough, with 4400 metres of positive altitude difference along the roads of the Massif Central. After the rest day in Toulouse, from where the race will then start for the stage number 11, where the Pech David climb, 8 kilometres from the finish, which reaches a gradient of 20%, could bring some surprises.
From the 12th come the Pyrenees, departure from Auch and arrival in Hautacam, in between the climbs of the Col du Soulor and the Col des Borderes. Always in the mountains the 13th with a time trial from Loudenvielle to Peyragudes (11 kilometres of total route and 7 of climbing). 14esima will be the Pyrenean stage par excellence, from Pau to Luchon-Superbagnères: 183 kilometers, with the Col du Tourmalet, the Col d`Aspin, the Col de Peyresourde and the uphill finish (12,4 km at 7,5%). The riders will be able to recover in the fraction number 15, arriving in Carcassonne, quiet but still with 2400 meters of altitude difference. After another stop with the peloton that will move to Montpellier from where it will leave again on Tuesday 22 July for the stage 16 towards Mont Ventoux, which will once again be the site of the stage finish after 12 years. Then the 17esima in Valence, a traditional finish line for sprinters.
From Thursday 24th we start to get serious with stage 18 from Vif to Courchevel, for 171 kilometers that include the ascents of the Col du Glandon, the Col de la Madeleine and, indeed, the one towards Courchevel, which is none other than the terrible Col de la Loze. The stage number 19 will have the finish in La Plagne, with four Grand Prix de la Montagne along the route. Saturday 26 July stage from Nantua to Pontarlier, on the Jura roads, very suitable for escapes. Final catwalk from Mantes to arrive after 120 kilometers on the Champs-Elysées in Paris.
