The Italian beach soccer team goes to the World Cup after the double test in Portugal
La Italian beach soccer team is ready for the upcoming World Cup in Seychelles (it will be played from 1st to 11th May). The technical commissioner Emiliano Del Duca has chosen the 12 that he will take with him to the World Cup of sand football, which for the first time will be played on African soil. After the double friendly test of Easter and Easter Monday in Portugal against the Lusitanian hosts, coach Del Duca has made the final selection, from 16 to 12 players.
Ai Seychelles Beach Soccer World Cup there will be five Viareggio players with the Italian national team: the goalkeeper Leandro Casapieri, the talented left-footed Tommaso Fazzini and the solid central defender Luca Bertacca (all three playing for Pisa Beach Soccer: Bertacca and Fazzini since this year after all the Viareggio process), the striker Alessandro Remedi and the right-back Gianmarco Genovali (the two of them still playing for Viareggio Beach Soccer). Two other black and white players have also been called up (but not from Viareggio): the goalkeeper Gean Pietro Negrini and the pivot Camillo Augusto, who are the two “oriundi“ recently purchased by VBS for the 2025 summer season. For all five Viareggio players, this is their second participation in a World Cup after the one a year ago in Dubai, in which Italy lost in the final against Brazil, who the Azzurri will now find themselves facing in the group stage of this 2025 World Cup.
The double test played in Funchal (capital of the Madeira archipelago) had opposite results. In the first match, ItalBeach was beaten 5-3 by the Portuguese on Sunday: the Azzurri goals were scored by Andriani, goalkeeper Gean Pietro and Alla. In the repeat of the friendly the following day, on Easter Monday, the Italian national team won 5-4 with a super comeback, after going 4-0 down: this time, captain Zurlo scored a brace and goals by Andriani, Josep Jr and Camillo Augusto (the new Viareggio striker scored the match-winning goal) defeated Portugal.
