Giacomo Galanda (pictured) was in Siena for the presentation of his first book 'La mia vita a spicchi', formerly of the Mens Healthy who told how the idea of dedicating a volume to a career full of satisfactions and glory was born. "The book talks about my life - underlines the former Italian forward - and how I also interpreted one of my greatest passions, namely basketball. Several people have pointed out to me that in other book presentations I have talked a lot about other things like music, friendships, art, travel and little about basketball. Maybe because I have had so many passions in my life that have made me eclectic. For many years they have asked me to write a book and when I reached 50 years of age I decided to write it".
In the volume of the former player there is a mention of the Mens Healthy obviously. "The main thread of the story is logically the basket – Galanda admits – as is clearly evident from the title. One of these segments that I cite is dedicated to Mens Sana. There are many connections though because I wanted to talk about many human and sporting themes and experiences, among all the one with the National team which was certainly the highest point of my career. I am proud to have represented Italy in certain contexts".
The Olympic silver is certainly something unique but at club level Galanda is known and recognized for being the player to have won three badges in three different cities. "Yes. I don't know if anyone has beaten this record, I'm not one who pays attention. Surely, however, each of those three scudetti meant something and left me with a unique memory. It happened to be in the right places at the right times. In Varese in the star season that coincided with a long fast. In Bologna for the first historic success of Fortitudo and in Siena for the first scudetto that then opened the golden years of the club. That Mens Sana was a very strong team but winning is never easy. Three scudetti, all very significant".
Galanda finally concludes with the current Mens Sana. "It hasn't come from easy years - he concludes - but now basketball is difficult everywhere and at all levels if there aren't big finances and important investments. Surely, however, the following, the affection of the people and its history can be a springboard".
