Game over. Carpi and the playoffs say goodbye under the Sardinian sun, at the end of a trip to the island that started badly and ended even worse. Forced to stay in Sassari for four days without spares and training material, Serpini's team gave it their all, keeping alive the dream of staying in the race for the playoffs for 78', the time in which Cortesi and Saporetti had recovered from Torres' 2-0 at the start of the second half. But in the end the Sardinians' force of impact, who with the three points have secured third place, and Carpi's decline made the difference and so at -4 from Pontedera and Gubbio (both victorious) Carpi's season ends with 90' to spare. Carpi had started well, pressing Torres high and exploiting the quality of the four in midfield (Casarini and Figoli in turns in the three-quarter line). The danger is brought by Zagnoni by heading out from a corner, then as the minutes pass Torres gains meters and collects opportunities. Sorzi has to defuse Dametto's header and stretch out on Zecca's surgical right-footer from the edge, while it is Zagnoni's head that blocks Scotto's sure-fire impact from two steps away. In the final moments then it is Scotto who pardons the red and whites (control and shot out from the spot) on the great work of Brentan. Serpini plays Gerbi after 10' of the second half and from his side Casarini is blocked with a sure-fire shot.

But in 3' the whole red and white castle collapses: on the restart Zecca talks to Scotto who finds an uncatchable right, immediately after Panelli coming out loses a bloody ball and again Scotto serves Nanni the comfortable 2-0 only to push into the goal. Torres however has not reckoned with a super Cortesi, who reopens the game alone. The tests on a solitary escape that Zaccagno closes in a desperate exit, but shortly after the goalkeeper's botched exit becomes an assist for the magic lob from 25 meters by the playmaker. There is space for Puletto, Rigo and Saporetti and after a high free kick by Guiebre "Sapo" - who had not scored for a round - scores the equalizer after the excellent dialogue on the right Rossini-Calanca-Gerbi. Carpi would still be in the running (-3 from the playoffs), but collapses in the final when Nanni slaloms in the area jumping Rigo and Zagnoni for the 3-2 and then it is Guiebre with a left-footed shot, found by Varela, to bring down the curtain on the red and white season.
