Cycling, Ganna leads the Giglio d'Oro after the classics

Florence, April 30, 2025 – After the monument races in Northern Europe and with the Liège-Bastogne-Liège that closed the program, the point on the current ranking of the 52nd Giglio D'Oro, the award for the best Italian athlete of the season sponsored by the Tuscany Region, the Tuscan Group of Sports Journalists of the Ussi chaired by Franco Morabito and the Metropolitan City of Florence. Organized by the Giglio D'Oro chaired by Lorenzo Carmagnini and his father Saverio, the only award in Italy with this formula, which has been held since 1974, with the first edition won by Francesco Moser who is also the multiple winner with 9 editions, followed by Vincenzo Nibali with six.
The current leader of the ranking is Filippo Ganna, winner of the Giglio D'Oro in 2020 and 2023 with 160 points, followed by Jonathan Milan with 145, by Giulio Ciccone with 130, thanks to the latest results achieved including second place behind the champion Tadej Pogacar at the finish line in Liège. Colnaghi and Scaroni follow with 70 points and Velasco with 65. Also for the 2025 edition various other awards are planned in memory of Gino Bartali, Alfredo Martini, Gastone Nencini and Franco Ballerini, as well as a special Giglio Rosa for an athlete who will distinguish himself during the season.
But this year there are a couple of important and prestigious novelties, which will be officially unveiled in the coming weeks combined with the Giglio d'Oro, whose final ceremony will take place as always with a Grand Gala in November at the Carmagnini del '500 restaurant in Pontenuovo di Calenzano. Last year the award was assigned to the Tuscan Alberto Bettiol.
