Cycling, the professional season begins and the Giglio D'Oro Award is on its way

Calenzano, 7 March 2025 – With the Trofeo Laigueglia held yesterday on the Riviera di Ponente in Liguria and won by the young and promising twenty-two-year-old Spaniard Juan Ayuso over the talented Scaroni, the professional cycling season in Italy opened, and with it the 52nd Giglio D'Oro also got underway. This is the prestigious national award organized by Lorenzo and Saverio Carmagnini with the patronage of the Tuscan Group of Sports Journalists of the USSI, the Tuscany Region, the Metropolitan City of Florence and the Municipality of Calenzano. Every year it is awarded to the best Italian professional of the season based on the results achieved, with a score that varies depending on the importance of the event. The last winner was the Tuscan and 2024 Italian Champion Alberto Bettiol, who received the award last November. There will also be several other awards, for the winner of the overall Italian title, for the winner of the Giro d'Italia, and for the revelation of the year (Memorial Gastone Nencini). Special recognitions with the Gino Bartali, Alfredo Martini and Franco Ballerini awards, the Giglio Rosa award for a cyclist who has particularly distinguished herself, the Franco Calamai Culture of Sport award for a colleague and cycling writer, and finally the Tommaso Cavorso Memorial and the award for the best junior of the season. The ranking of the 52nd Giglio D'Oro will take on its first appearance at the end of March when the first races of the 2025 season will have taken place. We conclude by pointing out that there will be welcome news for the 52nd Giglio D'Oro, with some important sponsors and special guests for this Award, born in 1974 in the restaurant “Carmagnini del '500”, a welcoming location also today of the award ceremony in the month of November.
