Cycling, Scottoni's winning run in the Paolo Baicchi Memorial

Calenzano (Florence), March 9, 2025 - A winner, the Lazio regional champion of 2024 Peter Scottoni of Team Vangi The Pirate, skilled and intelligent in the 4th Memorial Paolo Baicchi on the Aces Circuit at calenzano. Well done Scottoni, but the team's collective work was also decisive and essential, so much so that in the first five places 4 athletes from the Florentine team directed by Matteo Berti finished. A crushing success therefore on home roads, while in second place was the one who was considered the main favorite of the race, the Tuscan champion Del Cucina who lacked the support of his teammates when it was time to respond to the decisive attack by Scottoni and Parigi, who then remained detached from the Lazio rider who went on to win with a twenty meter advantage over the extended group. At the race organized by Pol. Virtus VII Miglio of the president Paolo Traversi and thanks to Riccardo and Tommaso Baicchi who wanted to remember their passionate father, 70 riders took off with 22 laps scheduled on a hilly circuit that over the distance caused half of the starters to abandon also because the average was notable from the first kilometers. The most consistent escape in the first part was that of Luci, Petrolati, Bonaiuti and Mazzarello, then Gaggioli, Cianti, Nicoloso, Tarallo, Del Cucina, Serangeli also tried. Finally the decisive episode in the final lap protagonists Parigi and Scottoni. On the uphill climb 600 meters from the finish, Scottoni freed himself from his breakaway companion and while the group pressed ever closer, the Lazio rider managed to maintain a minimal advantage while his teammates Bolognesi, Sgherri and Petrolati completed the triumph of the team of president Fabrizio Vangi. Before the start of the race a minute of silence was observed to remember Ennio Bongiorni, a Massa native and well-known figure in national cycling, who passed away during the night.
