The Ligurian left his teammates behind in the most challenging section of the San Baronto climb.

In the magnificent day of sport and cycling in Cerbaia di Lamporecchio, opening race of the Junior season to remember Giuliano Baronti, we witnessed the great number of Ligurian Matthew Mengarelli. In jersey Team Giorgi, the winner detached his seven breakaway companions in the hardest and most demanding section of the climb of the San Baronto from the Lamporecchio side, winning the mountain grand prix with an 8-second advantage over a quartet that remained in pursuit. He flew with lucidity on the descent, increasing his advantage to 14 seconds, which he finally defended in the three flat kilometers before arriving triumphantly on the straight of via Amendola in front of the Neri Sottoli factory. Second place behind the magnificent winner, also complimented by the Italian coach Dino Salvoldi, was the excellent Rossetto, and third was the Russian Prosandeev of the Spanish team PC Baix Ebre Tortosa. Morlino and Scottoni also did well. It was a splendid day of sport and cycling, a large crowd despite the strong north wind, a perfect and impeccable organization at all times with a large deployment of resources and personnel. From up there Giuliano Baronti he will have been happy and content and that is what his sons Alessio and Stefano wanted, and all their invaluable collaborators. 188 athletes from 30 teams took part in the race that also remembered Pietro Marradini. A magnificent party and with Alessio and Stefano Baronti, who make an appointment together with Team Franco Ballerini who organized the race, on the first Sunday of March 2026 for another edition of a race of which all those present were enthusiastic about its preparation and this time also seen with pleasure on Rai Sport.
