Marcialla (Florence), May 10, 2025 – Three brilliant and undisputed protagonists in the 71st Trofeo Matteotti which was held in Marcialla on the hills of Val di Pesa halfway between Florence and Siena. With the splendid winner by a long way Matteo Ambrosini of MBHBan Ballan Colpack, Regnanti from Valdarno came in second and Bracalente teammate of the winner. Their breakaway began 90 km from the finish line, when they broke away from a group of 16 escapees who had promoted the breakaway after 45 km. Those who remained in pursuit lost more and more ground and the larger group did even worse, finishing over 5 minutes behind. The trio rode in concert until 10 km from the finish line when, thanks to the advantage of being in two and with perfect team play, Ambrosini pulled away. Regnanti, from Valdarno of Team Hopplà and Tuscan elite champion, tried to reply but Ambrosini flew towards the finish line greeted by the applause of the public, while for the Tuscan there was second place on the finish line in Piazza Brandi. This is the whole story of the “Matteotti 2025” organized for 39 years in Marcialla by the Aics Pol. of Florence represented by the president Enrica Ignesti and the president of the cycling section Gianni Cantini, with the usual passionate collaboration of the Marcialla Sports Committee led by Armando Nesi. This year 174 athletes from 31 clubs will be at the start, with Israelis, Russians and Mexicans at the start given by the mayor of Barberino Tavarnelle David Baroncelli, Elisabetta Nencini, daughter of the great champion from Mugello, first winner of the Matteotti Trophy in 1952, and the president of the Tuscany Regional Cycling Committee Luca Menichetti will be present. The change of route has given good results and has certainly been more challenging even if too many athletes (those in the group) seemed to have given up, suffering a very heavy gap. The winner Ambrosini was born in Asiago and lives in Canove di Roana in the province of Vicenza, he has a diploma in mechanics and before arriving in cycling he was a long track skater, winning various Italian titles. This season he had won the classic Coppa San Geo at the end of February, and then other good performances also competing in the Tour de Bretagne.
Gianluca Valoti drove it in the flagship car and in the end it was a great celebration, while it is worth remembering the splendid organization of the race with particular attention to safety during it.
