Formula 1 owners determined to close deal by 2024: Dorna era coming to an end. Razgatlioglu warns: “I dream of MotoGP, but 2026 is the last chance”

Liberty Media Set to Complete MotoGP Acquisition
Rome, 8 November 2024 – The MotoGp is about to change hands permanently. Liberty Media, already owner of Formula 1, is completing the acquisition of the MotoGP and has every intention of making it effective by 2024, to then work at full capacity from the 2025 season. It is therefore about to close, the Dorna era. Everything is ready on the part of the Americans, who have already found the resources to get to the checkers with meticulous work on a financial level, as stated by the CEO Greg Maffei. And Superbike star Toprak could also arrive in 2026 Razgatlioglu.
A billion dollars ready
During a press conference with Liberty Media investors, Chairman and CEO Greg Maffei he illustrated the plan to purchase MotoGp, with a figure already found of a billion dollars. Liberty ready to take over the entire world of motors: F1 and MotoGp: “The third quarter was active both at the corporate level and in operational activities – his words – We refinanced the debt structures of Formula 1 and secured the financing necessary for the acquisition of MotoGp. We raised 850 million in Term Loan B and 150 million in Term Loan A specifically to finance MotoGp”. Everything is proceeding, also in terms of commercial rights on which MotoGp has already worked in recent months: “It was agreement with FIM extended until 2060 and in 2025 there will be 22 races in 18 countries, with the launch of the new brand. We look forward to seeing even more exciting races”, concluded Maffei. MotoGP will therefore be owned by Liberty Media in all respects.
And watch out for Toprak
The Turkish rider Toprak could join the MotoGP rider pool in 2026 Razgatlioglu, a true Superbike phenomenon with which he won the world title with bmw defeating the Ducati di Open up e Baptist. The Turk is 28 years old, he is no longer very young, and he has indicated a deadline by which he could possibly land in the top class: 2026. His contract with BMW will expire in 2025 and after that he will be free, but to enter Moto GP he is looking for a credible project with factory bikes, not an easy one. In short, he does not want to be an extra and if there is not the right solution he will put his dream in the drawer, perhaps staying with the production-derived bikes: "The Moto GP dream is still there - his interview with Sky Sport - Next year I will still be with BMW but from 2026 I will be free and if there were to be a good chance in Moto GP I could move. I still have that dream, but if it does not happen in 2026 I will not think about it anymore. I am getting old and that would be the last chance". In the meantime, there is a season to finish with the last weekend in Barcelona from 15 to 17 November with Jorge Martin who has a 24 point advantage over Pecco bagnaia and 37 points available.
