Sepang, 5 February 2025 – Bad start to the adventure in Aprilia for Jorge Martin. After just 14 laps of the official Sepang tests, the Spanish rider crashed violently on turn 2, suffering several fractures to his hand and foot. A bad high side threw the world champion to the ground and he will now have to return to Europe and undergo double surgery, with the risk that he could miss the first GP of the season. Aprilia therefore loses its jewel and for now the recovery times are uncertain and will probably be estimated only after the operation that Martin will undergo tomorrow. In the misfortune of the bad fall, the impact of the head on the asphalt did not cause any other problems and the CT scan gave a negative result.

Rivola: “No tests in Thailand, it’s the worst moment”

A very bad day for the number one and Aprilia. First a slide in turn 1, then the bad high side in turn 2 that caused much more serious damage, so much so that it forced Martin to an immediate return to Europe for surgery. The outcome was unfortunately negative: fractures to the third metacarpal of the right hand and to the third, fourth and fifth metatarsal of the left foot. In short, a disaster. After the fall, Martin he underwent the first checks at the medical center and was then transferred to the Nilai hospital for the first diagnostic tests which revealed at least four fractures. Jorge is scheduled to fly back to Europe tomorrow to undergo a double surgical operation that will involve both the hand and the foot and for now the recovery times are unknown: we will talk about it again once the operation is over, but surely Martin will miss the Buriram tests and is now doubtful for the first Grand Prix on March 2.

Morale is low in Aprilia, because the injury came at the worst time.Martin he will undergo surgery to shorten the recovery time, but this year the first race comes early and it's a problem", the first words of the CEO Massimo Rivola. In fact, there is no time, the Buriram tests are in mid-February and the first race weekend is set from February 28th to March 2nd: “Martin He won't give up but it's difficult to see him at the Buriram tests and he will try to do his best to return as soon as possible", again Rivola. Fortunately, the brain CT scan was negative but after falls of this type it is necessary to remain under observation for at least 24 hours: "All the tests done are negative, but he has fractures between his right hand and left foot, all composed - Rivola explained -. It is the worst time for an injury of this kind considering the radical change in the team. What happened to Martin it's inexplicable and from the data we don't see anything strange, nor were there any problems with the bike". Now all the weight is on the shoulders of his teammate Marco Bezzecchi: “A great job has been done and we are forced to rely on him, hoping that Jorge can benefit from his work,” Rivola concluded.
