MotoGp Malaysia schedule, Sky and Tv8: where to watch the Sepang Grand Prix live
The triptych in Asia closes: two races to go and Bagnaia chases Martin with a 17-point gap. A decisive crossroads before Valencia

Jorge Martin and Pecco Bagnaia
Sepang, October 31, 2024 – Seventeen points behind, seventy-four available. Pecco bagnaia he closed the gap to Jorge in Buriram Martin, but he is forced to always win, that is the two long races and the two sprint races between Malaysia and Valencia, and hope that his rival does not always finish second. In fact, Pecco needs a half misstep by Jorge to have a chance at the last GP, on the other hand the Pramac rider can manage up to a certain point, knowing full well that Marc Marquez and Aeneas bastianini can bother him and take away some points. The favorite is Martin, especially because of the advantage that always allows him to arrive immediately behind bagnaia and still win the world championship. The next appointment, with the challenge between the two, will be in the upcoming weekend of Sepang in Malaysia where Bagnaia will try to do a double to put pressure on Martin in view of the last appointment in mid-November in Valencia. On the other hand, the current leader of the world championship would mathematically win the title if he left Sepang with a 38-point advantage given that in Valencia there would only be 37 available (25 long races and 12 Sprint Races).
Circuit
Built specifically for speed and the most exciting racing, the Sepang International Circuitin Malaysia, is one of the best in the world. The 2.300-acre complex, which also houses a hotel, shopping mall, golf course and other sports facilities, cost around £50 million and was built in just 14 months, hosting its first Grand Prix in April 1999 and setting the standard for race circuits around the world. With four slow corners following two long straights and ten medium and high-speed corners, the wide track is particularly conducive to overtaking manoeuvres and spectacle. One of the longest laps in MotoGP, it is made even more gruelling for the riders by the intense heat and humidity. Sepang is located around 50km south of the city of Kuala Lumpur.
Previous
The race has been held in Sepang since 1999, when Kenny won. Roberts jr on Suzuki, first of two consecutive triumphs. Then came the Italians, who won six times in a row in the top class from 2001 to 2006 thanks to Vale Rossi (four wins), Max biaggi and Loris Capirossi. In total, the Doctor has won six times in Sepang, the last one in 2010. Subsequently, Malaysia became a land of Spanish conquest with Daniel Pedrosa, three victories (2012, 2013, 2015), Marc Marquez, two successes, and Maverick Vinales, however the Italians managed to prevail with Andrea Dovizioso in 2016 and 2017 and with Pecco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini in 2022 and 2023. How did Jorge and Pecco do a year ago? In the Sprint Race Martin finished second ahead of Bagnaia, while in the long race the beast won over Alex Marquez, Pecco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin. In short, it appears to be a balanced path for both.

The situation in the rankings
The situation in the standings is quite clear. Martin he has a 17 point advantage and if he were to come out of Sepang with a 38 point margin over Pecco he would be mathematically world champion, because in the event of a tie the Italian would win. bagnaia, however, it will not be enough to win all the remaining races (two sprints and two GPs), because he would gain 74 points going to 510 in the standings, but if Martin if he always finished second he would score 58 (40 in the two long races and 18 in the two sprints) to reach 511, thus triumphing by just one point.
