Goggia: “Serena for the Olympics. Brignone? He can return to the top”

Bologna, April 16, 2025 – Once rivals, now if not exactly friends almost. Sofia goggia and Federica Brignone are the locomotive of the Italian alpine skiing with a view to the Milan-Cortina Olympics and today their relationship has found a point of harmony. This time, however, they will arrive there from different situations, perhaps inverted. Often it has been Sofia who had to stop due to more or less serious injuries near a big event, while now it was Fede's turn, who shortly after lifting the overall World Cup (the second of her career) was seriously injured at the Italian giant slalom. A compound fracture to the leg, surgery, and now 5 months of stop before being able to put her skis back on her feet. She will miss a large part of the summer training, but could return to the snow in the fall and with a few months ahead to prepare for the Olympic event in February 2026. A bad blow, the first real major injury of Fede's career Brignone and who better than goggia can be of support to her. The Bergamo woman has a lot of experience in these situations.  

Goggia: “I told Fede that he can come back in time”

The Fisi Media Day was an opportunity to take stock of the situation of Italian winter sports less than a year away from the Olympics. Snow and ice sports are in good health - except in some disciplines (men are struggling between giant slalom and slalom) - and women's alpine skiing in particular, with two Italians on the World Cup podium, confirms the strength of a golden generation that still has a lot to give. Sofia goggia and Federica Brignone, the two companions often rivals, but now strengthened by a more cohesive and convergent relationship, more like veteran leaders of a team that will have to, sooner or later, face a generational change. They will be the two spearheads at the Olympics since they will be able to aim for medals in three out of four disciplines. goggia has finally closed a season without injuries, Fede instead saw his golden period interrupted with a bad fall at the Assoluti. Sofia is convinced that the tiger will be able to return to the way she once was: "I spoke to her the day of the injury - Sofi's story to Sportitalia - I immediately asked the doctor who was at the Assoluti for information and they passed it on to me on the phone and also via message I wrote to her that I have experience in the matter and she can recover for the next season". goggia, on the other hand, knows how to come back in time for the Olympics after a serious stop: "I think his staff will have made the best choice for the rehabilitation process. The injury is serious, but if he manages to heal well he can put his skis back on in December with plenty of time to prepare for the Olympics". In favor of Brignone also a career with very few injuries: "She has reached 34 years of age without any major injuries and in her brain there will be the right neural connections to keep alive the gesture that she will have to do once she is back on the track", Goggia concluded. Sofia, on the other hand, closed one of her rare seasons without any problems. She arrived healthy until the end and so she can prepare for the Olympics with serenity: "The approach march is good, it's been a long time since I arrived healthy at the end of the season. For me it's almost a novelty and we will do everything possible to plan the Olympic year in the best possible way. We must not have worries about the Olympics in Italy, otherwise we risk focusing only on one thing and neglecting the rest. Instead, it is precisely from the World Cup races that you acquire the confidence to do well at the Olympics". goggia at least another two years are expected before, possibly, thinking about a hypothetical retirement. First the Olympic year, then in 2027 the year of the world championships, always in search of that gold that has always been missing.
