Bologna, April 25, 2025 – Federica Brignone look to the future, to the end of the summer, to start planning the return to the track with a view to Milan-Cortina Olympics. The athlete from the Aosta Valley, who fell badly at the Assoluti di Passo San Pellegrino, underwent surgery to reduce the fracture of the tibial plateau and the head of the fibula, but during the accident she also suffered an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament. And if the recovery from the fracture proceeds without a hitch, the next step will be to evaluate the condition of the knee in a few weeks. In essence, a second operation could be necessary. Reflection that Brignone will do together with the doctors and his staff.

Lunch with Malagò, then the knee: "We'll evaluate in May"

The worst way to celebrate the best season of her career, with the overall World Cup dominated, plus the downhill and giant slalom cups, becoming the most successful Italian ever and beefing up her records. A swing of the arm at the Italian Championships was enough to stop the golden moment of the tiger, who now, less than a year from Milan-Cortina, will have to try to plan her recovery as best as possible to guarantee herself a chance in February 2026. There is time, but we also need to get to Cortina in top form. For now, everything is going well: “My leg is better, it wasn’t the end of the season I was hoping for but I’m staying positive – Federica’s words to L’Equipe – We have to accept injuries, they’re part of the sport. Today I’m doing a lot of rehabilitation and physiotherapy and they removed the stitches. I’ll be able to start swimming soon. The first two months will be very important”. And among the important things to evaluate is the knee. The cruciate ligament injury will be examined carefully soon: “In May we’ll evaluate the knee to understand whether to perform an operation on the cruciate ligament”, Federica’s response, who therefore hypothesizes a second operation. It will certainly take 5-6 months before we see her back on the slopes, so we’re heading towards the end of summer or the beginning of autumn, a timeframe that would allow her to carefully prepare for Milan-Cortina. It will take time to regain her best physical condition and the best feeling on skis, but fortunately the situation allows her to Brignone to establish a clear path to the home Olympics, which will likely also be the last of his career. Brignone there is all the closeness of Italian sport, starting from the outgoing president of Coni Giovanni Malagò who visited Federica at J Medical for a cordial lunch together. It is unlikely that the tiger will be able to defend the World Cup won this year and for this very reason she will be able to plan in detail the approach to the Olympics. She and Sofia goggia, the leaders of a golden age, for an Olympic event to remember. And nobody wants to miss them.
