Saalbach, 4 February 2025 – The Alpine Ski World Championships got off to a flying start, as no one had imagined. Saalbach. The team parallel has never been a specialty that has brought great satisfaction to Italy, a podium in Are, while in Austria a half miracle was revealed thanks to Lara Della Mea, Georgia Collomb (just 18 years old), Alex Vinatzer, and Philip Of The Vine. An exciting journey for the Azzurri who defeated Ukraine in the round of 16, France in the quarter-finals, Sweden in the semi-final, a victory by just one hundredth, and then Switzerland in the final with Alex Vinatzer who tied the series at two to two, obtaining a time sufficient for the gold medal. The sum of the times in fact rewarded Italy, who had previously seen Collomb to obtain a great success over Holdener, but Della Mea and Della Vite had been defeated and the Swiss had risen two to one. He thought about it like this Vinatzer, who beat Tumbler and lowered the total time of Switzerland by a few hundredths. And it's party time right away.
Della Vite: “A great emotion”
A young and talented team, that experiences ups and downs, sometimes some disappointment, but when the quality kicks in there is material for the future too. Alex Vinatzer he is now a veteran, born in 1999 like Lara Della Mea, who in a certain sense has yet to blossom, then there is Filippo from Bergamo Of The Vine, born in 2001, and eighteen-year-old Giorgia Collomb, bold, courageous and a sure bet for the future of the women's national team considering her 18 years. The Saalbach World Championships start with a bang, with an unexpected gold and for this reason even more exciting, especially for Pippo Della Vite who has had a very complicated start to the season. But from here on, a whole different tune can start and who knows, maybe a start like this can lead to other successes in this event that promises to be delicious: "I struggled at the start of the season but now I'm back in good shape and it was a fantastic and exciting race. We are very happy and we deserved to win", the words of Of The Vine, excited together with an incredulous Giorgia Collomb: “I don’t know what to say, it’s a dream to have won a world gold.” Now the quartet will await the individual and technical races in the second week. Della Vite will certainly be involved in the giant, but he should also take the fourth slot in the slalom, Vinatzer will do both, with important chances, as will Della Mea in the women’s, while Collomb will have the special slalom at the end of the world championship. In the meantime, Of The Vine enjoys the redemption of a memorable day: "It was a wonderful victory, there couldn't have been a better start to these World Championships. The track was fantastic and the atmosphere charged us up a thousand times. We sang Italian songs to get ourselves going and it's fantastic". Giorgia echoed him Collomb: “We did a great team effort, it was a real battle”. Next race on Thursday 6th February with the women's super-G, another great chance with Brignone, Bassino, Goggia, Pirovano and Curtoni. It's the Italian dream team.
