Skiing, Schladming slalom: favourites, Italians competing and where to watch it on TV
Last slalom before the Saalbach World Championships, on the Planai Alex Vinatzer tries to confirm himself but Noel and Kristoffersen are the favourites: the race is at night

Alex Vinatzer
Bologna, 29 January 2025 – On the last day of the Champions League, ski enthusiasts will be able to get their hands on the remote control and enjoy a spectacular night race on the Planai di SchladmingThe traditional Austrian slalom comes just before the World Championships, which start next week, and the stage of Garmisch with the downhill on Sunday: these are the last events before the world championship. Yesterday there was the giant with the Norwegian double, Steen Olsen on Kristoffersen, and the comeback in the second heat of Odermatt, from twelfth to third, while Luca De Aliprandini He was burned by difficult snow, rain and high temperatures, but he saved himself with a decent fourteenth place. Bad Vinatzer, who did not qualify for the second run and will try for a great result in slalom. He is the best Italian card together with the eternal veteran Stefano Gross.
The situation and the favourites
The situation is definitely open in the standings after eight of the twelve slaloms on the calendar. The Frenchman Clement Noel is the leader of the specialty cup with 464 points, but Henrik Kristoffersen is close with 435, even if he paid the zero of Kitzbuhel, and also the Swiss Loic Meillard is still in the running with 370 points. Great champions have won on the Planai in the past, starting with the home team owner Marcel Hirscher who will however be in the parterre due to injury and probably his second part of career is already over. Henrik has won four times Kristoffersen, which uses Hirscher's materials, but beware of the German Linus Strasser, twice winner in the last three years. Track not always friendly for Clement Noel, never on the top step of the podium and twice second in recent years. For the Austrians there was a victory by Marco Black in 2021. The favourites, therefore, are Kristoffersen and Strasser, with Haugan, McGrath, Meillard, Yule, Noel and Feller in the second row, while the outsiders include Amiez, Gstrein, Steen Olsen and Braathen. For Italy there will be Alex Vinatzer, fresh from the podium in Kitz, as the main chance for an important result, together with Stefano Gross, Tobias Kastlunger, Thomas Saccardi, Simon Maurberger and Philip Of The Vine.
