Bologna, 11 December 2024 – There were no doubts, but now there are the official confirmations: Sofia goggia was summoned for the Beaver Creek World Cup stage. It's her return to racing after many months of stoppage due to the serious foot injury she suffered in training in Ponte di Legno. On the program, in America, a women's downhill on Saturday and a super-G on Sunday, both at 19 pm, and Sofia will be part of the Italian team at the start together with Elena Curtoni, also returning after a long injury, Federica Brignone, Laura Pirovano, Roberta Melesi, Martha bassino, Nadia Delago, Nicol Delago, Sara Thaler and Vicky Bernardi. So Goggia's pursuit of the title she's missing begins, which is the one at the world championships where she's always been unlucky. Saalbach 2025 awaits her, but Lindsey will also be there Vonn who will be the trailblazer in Beaver and in recent Fis races she obtained the points she needed to be able to return to compete in the top circuit. Great challenge.

Goggia: “I’m fine, also in giant slalom since January”

A busy week in the World Cup with the girls in Beaver Creek and the boys in Val d'Isere for four races between Saturday and Sunday with a high level of spectacle. There is a lot of anticipation for the free on American soil, embellished not only by the first female experience on the Birds of Prey but also by the return of Sofia goggia, the best performer on the planet. Sofia has regained confidence and feeling in training and is physically well. There are no more fears: "I have done good speed training sessions and the confidence has remained - she said - I thought I would be afraid on certain curves, instead everything went well but I don't know what to expect in terms of competitions. In Copper it was still a fundamental job". And Vonn who is coming back to compete? Here's Sofia's thought: "Lindsey really likes this sport, let's welcome her return."

At the moment goggia will only do the speed tests, but from January she is also ready to try her hand at giant slalom: "I've only done five training sessions but I want to get back to competing in the wide gates too. General World Cup? I'm not thinking about it, it's the last thing on my mind because I'm coming back from a very serious injury". As mentioned, in Beaver Creek the girls have never faced the downhill and the only precedent dates back to 2013, but in giant slalom. Jessica Lindell Vikarby won over Mikaela Shiffrin and Tina Weirather. Seventh place for Brignone. The men are also competing, returning to Europe in Val d'Isere for a giant slalom on Saturday 14th and a slalom on Sunday 15th. Among the wide gates, Alex has been called up Vinatzer, Philip of the Screw, Luca De Aliprandini, Hannes Zingerle, John Borsotti and Simon Talacci, in slalom there will be the same Vinatzer and Della Vite with Tobias Kastlunger and Stephen Gross. To find an Italian men's podium in Val d'Isere we have to go back to 2019 when Stefano Gross was third in the slalom.
