Sun Valley (USA), March 23, 2025 - The Sun Valley Finals continue with the women's super-G, which proposes yet another Seasonal head-to-head between Federica Brignone and Lara Gut-Behrami. After the cancellation of yesterday's downhill, the fastest specialty and the overall World Cup have already taken the path of the Italian, but the Swiss redeems herself I tame the Challenger with a stunning time of 1:12.35. The contest between the two rivals, separated by just 5 points before this race, this time smiles on the Ticinese, who wins the final super-G and the specialty cup, preceding an extraordinary (and in tears) Lindsey Vonn on the podium: both the American and Brignone (third) are more than 1" behind Gut-Behrami, who literally played another sport today. As for the other Italians, Marta Bassino is just off the podium, while Laura Pirovano closes the top 10: Elena Curtoni is 13th, Roberta Melesi is 14th, while Sofia Goggia closes last due to an error on a curve.
The news
The first Italian is Roberta Melesi, who goes down in 1:15.08, a time lowered by 55 hundredths by Laura Pirovano. Emma Aicher (Germany) then flies into the lead, thanks to her 1:14.36, a time that Elena Curtoni worsens by 46 hundredths. The new leader becomes Cornelia Huetter (Austria), who goes down in 1:14.01 before the spotlight goes all the way to Lara Gut-Behrami (Switzerland), fighting for the specialty cup: the Ticinese does not disappoint expectations and places a sensational 1:12.35, the result of record times in all four sectors. Federica Brignone is so backed up against the wall even before taking to the track on the Challenger: the Italian immediately gains 6 hundredths before losing 33, then 65 before closing 1"33 behind the Swiss, who therefore wins the super-G cup. It's then Sofia Goggia's turn, who immediately leaves 16 hundredths on the track before going off and losing an eternity and closing with a very high time of 1:15.93. An extraordinary Lindsey Vonn (United States) takes second place thanks to a time of 1:13.64. The last Italian in the race is Marta Bassino, who goes down in 1:13.80, closing fourth.
