Matteo Arnaldi in Madrid
Madrid, April 30, 2025 - Matthew Arnaldi wants to try to reach the semifinal of a Masters 1000 for the second time in his career. After having succeeded in 2024 in Montreal (then being eliminated by the Russian Andrey rublev), the tennis player born in Sanremo has the chance to repeat that result in Madrid. In the meantime, our standard-bearer has earned a place among the top eight of the Spanish tournament, beating the American Frances Tiafoe with the result of 6-3, 7-5. A success that followed those obtained against the Croatian Borna Coric (4-6, 6-4, 7-5), of Nole djokovic (6-3, 6-4) and the Bosnian Damir Dzumhur (6-3, 6-4). On the other side of the net, the Ligurian will find this time Jack DraperThe British player, number 5 in the draw, is fresh from his wins against the Dutchman Tallon Greek Railway (6-3, 6-4), of Matteo Berrettini (out for withdrawal) and of the American Tommy paul (6-2, 6-2). There are no precedents between Arnaldi and Draper. The mission for our standard-bearer promises to be challenging, but during the event the 2001-born player has shown that he is in excellent form.
Arnaldi's words
"I'm happy with the way I played, I was attentive from the first to the last ball - Arnaldi told Sky Sport microphones after his victory over Tiafoe - I saved a lot of break points, then I broke his serve. I felt pressure at the end, but I got my tennis back together in the final and I won. In this tournament I have a special feeling, I had already beaten Ruud before Djokovic. I'm playing well, I'm happy, of course beating Nole gives you energy. I'm happy to have reached the quarterfinals, I'll try to prepare as best I can".
