Arnaldi beats Tiafoe

Rome, April 30, 2025 - New exploit of Matteo Arnaldi at the Mutua Open in Madrid, Masters 1000 tennis tournament: the Italian, who beat Novak Djokovic in the first round, reaches the quarter-finals after beating the American in the eighth-finals Frances Tiafoe, No. 17 in the world and 16 in the main draw, in two sets, with a score of 6-3 7-5.

Arnaldi is fully satisfied after the victory. "In this tournament I have a special feeling, I had already beaten Ruud before Djokovic. I'm playing well, I'm happy, of course beating Nole gives you energy. I'm happy to have reached the quarterfinals, I'll try to prepare myself as best I can". And he adds: "I'm happy with how I played, I was careful from the first to the last ball. With Frances we had played at Wimbledon, I had lost in the fifth. With him it is always complicated. I saved many break points, then I broke his serve. I felt pressure at the end, but I put my tennis back together in the final and I won"; concludes the Italian tennis player.

Djokovic withdraws from Rome

Coming back from a dark period, Novak Djokovic will not play the Rome Internationals. The Serbian tennis player has announced his withdrawal to "arrive in the best possible way in Paris". Six-time champion at the Foro Italico, he will miss out after 16 consecutive participations: he comes from three defeats in a row (the last one against Arnaldi) and this year he has not yet won a match on clay. In his place, the Hungarian Fabian Marozsan enters the draw.
