Rome, 6 April 2025 - The wait is over: Flavio Cobolli conquer the his first title in his career on the major circuit, winning the "Tiriac Open presented by UniCredit Bank", Atp 250 of 596.035 euros in prize money that ended today on the clay of Bucharest. The 22-year-old Roman, third seed, defeated the first favorite of the draw in the final, Argentine Sebastian Baez: 6-4 6-4 in one hour and 47 minutes of play. For Cobolli, this is the first win in his career after having come close to it last fall in Washington, where he was beaten in the final by Sebastian Korda. For the young Italian, number 45 in the world, it is also a great satisfaction after a complicated first part of the season, so much so that he arrived in Bucharest still without victories.

"Dream come true, finally this day has arrived. I was coming from difficult times, something has changed in the last few weeks", Cobolli's words after having won his first ATP title in Bucharest and given Italy the 100th title in the men's circuit. "It's not easy to play against Baez on clay, he has won a lot, but it was a great battle and a great victory", continued the Roman tennis player who beat the number 1 seed in Bucharest and will now climb ten positions in the rankings, reaching the 35th place. In July he lost his only final on the hard court in Washington, and now he wins on the red clay in Romania, where in the past Andrea Gaudenzi, Filippo Volandri and Fabio Fognini had been stopped in the final.

Darderi also wins

Luciano Darderi won the ATP 250 tournament Marrakesh, Morocco. The 23-year-old, world number 57, beat Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor, number 37 in the ranking, on clay with a score of 7-6 7-6. For the Italian, it is the second ATP tournament won after last year's one in Cordoba.
