Rome, March 18 – Jannik Sinner will also participate in the ATP 500 tournament Hamburg scheduled on clay between May 17 and 24, that is, exactly in the week between the end of the Internazionali d'Italia and the start of Roland Garros. After the long break that will keep him away from the courts until May 5, the world number one is adding another piece to his preparation for the second Slam of the season, with the aim of perfecting his performances on that surface (clay, to be precise) where he has encountered the greatest difficulty so far and on which this season he will try to make a real leap in quality. The tournament organizers themselves announced his presence in Hamburg through an official statement released on social media: “I'm thrilled to make my debut at the Hamburg Open, a tournament with a lot of history in our sport. - the words of Sinner himself reported on the competition website – I can't wait to play at Rothenbaum in May and finally visit Hamburg”. The participation of the Italian has also aroused great satisfaction on the part of Eric Molina Mur, director of the German tournament in which among others there will also be Tsisipas, Rune, Rublev and Monfils: “The participation of Jannik Sinner, the current world number one and three-time Grand Slam winner, is a milestone for our tournament and a historic moment”. A stage that could prove to be very important in the path to resuming competitive activity for the tennis player from Alto Adige, who will make his official return to the circuit during the Internazionali d'Italia but who has decided to include a tournament like the one in Hamburg in his agenda also for points reasons, before obviously facing the courts of Roland Garros where he will have to defend the semifinal lost last year against his great rival Carlos Alcaraz in a match decided only in the fifth set. It is the first time since 2008, and then it was Federer, that the ATP 500 of the large city in northern Germany hosts the ATP number 1 among the members. In the meantime, Sinner continues to train privately in his residence on the French Riviera, giving particular importance in this period to the athletic part thanks to the help of his athletic trainer Marco Panichi, waiting for the green light starting from next April 13 to return to training on a real tennis court together with his coach Simone Vagnozzi.
