Melbourne, 16 January 2025 – The streets of Jannik Sinner e Darren Cahill they will separate at end of the season. The Australian coach, who works with the world number 1 tennis player from summer 2022 together with Simone Vagnozzi, had already announced at the ATP Finals in Turin that Sinner would have been his last player. Now there is the official announcement from Jannik, which came at the end of the second round match of the Australian Open Won in four sets against Tristan Schoolkate: “He said that 2025 is his last season – the words of the Italian tennis player to Eurosport –. Who is Darren Cahill?
After finishing his playing career – his best ATP ranking was 22nd place – Darren Cahill became a coach and brought the Australian Lleyton Hewitt to become the youngest ever to reach the first position of the ranking. He later collaborated with Andre Agassi, who under his guidance became the oldest world number one in May 2003. After Agassi's retirement in 2006, from 2007 to 2009 he was captain of the Australian Davis Cup team.
He also entered the Adidas Player Development Program for which he followed Andy Murray, Ana Ivanovic, Fernando Verdasco, Daniela Hantuchova, Sorana Cirstea and Simona Halep, whom he coached from 2017 to 2018, helping her reach the first position in the WTA rankings. At the end of the 2018 season, he interrupted his working relationship with the Romanian tennis player to dedicate more time to his family. At the beginning of 2020, he resumed his work as a coach with Simona Halep. In June 2022, he was announced as Jannik Sinner's supercoach alongside coach Simone Vagnozzi: under their guidance, the South Tyrolean won his first Slam title at the Australian Open 2024, the first position in the world ranking, the US Open and ATP Finals.
