United Cup: Paolini and Cobolli out, Italy out in the quarterfinals with the Czech Republic
Double defeat for the two Italians in the singles of the Sydney competition that opens the competitive season

Rome, 3 January 2025 – Italy's adventure in the Champions League ends in the quarter-finals Sydney United Cup, mixed team competition that inaugurated the new competitive season. The Azzurri lost 2-0, in the first two singles, against the Czech Republic.
In the first match Jasmin Paolini was defeated 6-2, 6-2 by Karolina Muchova (22nd in the world ranking), in the second Flavio Cobolli he was beaten 6-1 Years, 6-2 Years da Tomas Machac (number 25 ATP). The 24-year-old from Beroun has thus signed his third success in as many matches against the 22-year-old from Rome, already beaten in the qualifying round of the 2022 US Open (hard) and in the first round of the Andria Challenger (fast indoor) of the same year.
La Czech Republic, that had been fished out as one of the two best runners-up, they will face the United States in the semifinals. In the two previous editions, the Eastern European team had always exited in the group stage.
The other semi-final will instead see opposing teams Poland (winner over Great Britain) and the Kazakhstan.
