Sonego flies to Australian Open round of 16
Rome, 18 January 2025 – Lorenzo Sonego qualified for the round of 16 of the Australian Open. In the third round the Piedmontese beat Hungarian Fabian Marozsan in four sets with the score of 6-7, 7-6, 6-1, 6-2, in 3 hours and 16 minutes of play. In the eighth-finals Sonego will challenge the American Learner Tien who in turn beat the French Corentin Moutet 7-6, 6-3, 6-3. The tennis player from Turin, number 55 in the ATP ranking, for the first time in his career in the second week of a Slam tournament.
Also good Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori who have passed the first round in the mixed doubles. The Italian pair, seeded number 1, beat the Australians Aiava-Jasika 6-3 6-4 in their debut match and in the second round (eighths) they will face the British Nicholls-Patten. In the women's doubles, however, eliminated Elizabeth Cocciaretto together with the Russian Samsonova (victory 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 for the Japanese Kato and the Mexican Zarazua) and Camilla Rosatello with the Romanian Cristian (4-6, 6-2, 6-3 for the Canadian Fernandez and the Ukrainian Kichenol, 16th in the seeding).
