Santiago against SanThiago. The meaning of Juventus-Bologna is in this smiling contrast between past and present. Between those who gave glory (and then bile) to Bologna and those who are dragging Italiano's team towards new hopes, with the 'garra' of his Argentine blood and the quality of a pure striker, also shown against Monza in the Coppa Italia.
While the anti-Motta chants started from the stands, Bologna produced a 4-0 win that shouldn't be taken as gospel, also due to the modest value of the opponent, but which contains important indications for the future.
The mix of regulars and substitutes, built by Italiano for the Cup challenge, suggests important considerations that the coach will take into account. The team has four players who form the backbone of Bologna: Lucumi, Freuler, Orsolini (unfortunately injured) and Castro.
To this group of chosen ones we must certainly add Ndoye (saved for Juve), a true crowbar of the attack with his burning accelerations. And then Miranda, the man of the crosses with a well-exercised foot and Beukema, another pillar of the defence. As for the right-back, the ballot between Posch, De Silvestri and Holm is still ongoing but the new purchase marks important progress in his integration into the team.
With Castro undisputed at the center of the attack, there are many options to find Freuler's two companions in midfield. Moro seems the most suitable because he combines defensive qualities and a certain sense of geometry. But Pobega is rising in value while for the role of attacking midfielder the choices are excellent: Odgaard, so far the most used by Italiano, plus Ferguson who is constantly growing and Urbanski. In the midfield roles, the relays are almost obligatory and Bologna can benefit from fresh and motivated substitutes. As well as on the wings, where the possible absence of Orsolini opens the field to Karlsson, Iling Junior and above all to Dominguez. The little Argentine, linked by a special relationship with Castro and as angry on the field as Santi, could be the surprise against Juve. Or a nice wild card to play in the hottest moment of the game. Just like Motta did, pulling white rabbits from his magician's hat.
