Numia Vero Volley Milano in the semifinals of the Women's Club Volleyball World Championship
The Milanese team qualified for the semi-finals after beating Zamalek Sporting Club. Now they needed a feat to triumph.
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
Mission accomplished for Numia True Volley Milan who has at least qualified for the Club World Cup semi-finals, although now it will take a feat (or rather, two) to triumph in China. After the bad defeat on Wednesday against the hosts of Tianjin Bohai Bank, the girls trained by coach Stefano Lavarini redeemed themselves with the modest Egyptians of Zamalek Sporting Club, who had so far always been defeated in the previous two matches of the world championship. Not only that: the score was kept under control, decisive in the event of a tie at the top of the group. Since the Africans did not score more than 49 points, Milan has guaranteed itself at least second place and therefore the passage to the next round. In the first set, Paola Egonu and Myriam Sylla, starters so as not to risk anything, exaggerated contributing to a 25-9 that made everything easier.
In the second set, the two Olympic champions went to rest on the bench alongside the other two queens of Paris 2024, Anna Danesi and Alessia Orro. In particular, the setter and captain of the team, who returned after more than a month of stoppage, took advantage of the opportunity to prepare herself as best as possible for the weekend. Marinova and Daalderop, coming on, continued their "walk" and Helena Cazaute took care of the rest: the only one in double figures at the end with 13 points, given the whirlwind changes that continued in the third set, slightly more balanced but never at risk of unpleasant surprises. Lamprini Konstantinidou in the control room enjoyed it all from the best position: "I'm happy to have stepped onto the court, we knew that this victory would be important for the fate of the group. We imposed ourselves in every set clearly and now we are ready to focus on the next match".
To find out who Milan's rival will be (on the field tomorrow at 12.30:3), you will have to wait for today's match at the same time that will close the group. If the Brazilians of Gerdau Minas were to win 0-28 with a maximum of XNUMX points of difference, Milan will actually be first. Otherwise, they will finish in second place and, in all likelihood, will challenge Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano who should have no problems in also getting rid of the Japanese of NEC Red Rockets Kawasaki and closing the other group undefeated. Everything or almost everything therefore leads to an Italian derby, a re-edition of the last Champions League final, with the place in the final for the world title at stake, which would obviously be the first for the Consortium team, at their first participation.
