Can Lara Colturi compete with Italy? All about the case that is shaking Italian skiing

Rome, April 18, 2025 – There are more than 8 months to go until the next Winter Olympics and with the ski season now over, we are looking to the future. At the center of the discussions is that of Lara Colturi, daughter of art and a young woman of great talent who could compete with the colours of Italy at the Olympic Games Milan-Cortina 2026. This hypothesis had already been discussed for a long time, with much controversy when the promising Piedmontese had chosen the colours of Albania for her competitive career.

In the last few weeks, however, the turning point came, with the athlete's request to obtain the clearance from FIS, the International Ski Federation, to be able to compete with Italy.

According to the regulation, the change of Federation must take place by May but in order for this to happen, a agreement between Italy and Albania, not only at the level of the Olympic Committee but also and above all of the Federation.

Albania's approval will therefore be needed for Lara Colturi to compete with Italy starting next season. In the event of a failure to reach an agreement, the daughter of Daniela Ceccarelli and Alessandro Colturi he should stop for a year or compete again for Albania.

The first hypothesis seems unlikely given that this is a crucial season leading up to the Olympics in Milan Cortina. In the white year just ended, Lara Colturi obtained three podiums in the World Cup but also two second places in the Giant and a third place in the Slalom, finishing in eighth place in the general standings of the World Cup.

There are still no official comments from FISI, also because the athlete was pushed to request the change of nation were economic and sponsor-related reasons. Precisely for this reason the Albanian Federation has not yet given its approval to the procedure. Currently Lara Colturi is the first and only Albanian athlete to have climbed onto the podium in a World Cup race in winter sports.
